Turkey

In September 2010 we returned to Istanbul.  We decided to stay in Sultanahmet and it proved to be a fabulous location to explore the old town.  It is just a short walk to Topkapi Palace, Hag Sofia, The Blue Mosque, The Hippodrome, The Basilica Cistern and The Grand Bazaar.  We walked across the Galata Bridge and took the Tunel to explore Istiklal Cadessi and Taksim.  Istanbul is a blaze of colour and life is certainly lived on the streets.  We loved the simit sellers, dondurma and chestnut vendors.  When we grew tired of sightseeing we simply sat at the bar outside our hotel and it seemed that all of Istanbul walked by.  I usually don't recommend hotels but it would be remiss of me not to mention the wonderful staff at the Great Western Premier Suites hotel in Sultanahmet.  Thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable.
